Find the Perfect Hair Cut for Your Face Shape
Posted on 17 April 2017
Going to the hair salon with a picture of your favorite celebrity in hand and asking for the same haircut rarely goes the way you imagined. Why is that?
Well, the answer lies in the shape of your face. Namely, it’s a no-brainer that not every cut is suitable for every face shape, so you have to be careful when choosing the right one. The first step is to determine your face shape and once you do that – here’s your little guide of best haircuts for each face shape.
Keep hair off oval face
Hairstylists consider ladies with oval-shaped faces lucky because they can pull off any hairstyle with ease. Also, they suggest you should keep your hair off your face to flaunt that perfect, rounded jawline and hairline. That’s why you should avoid heavy bangs and hairstyle that are one-length but feel free to experiment with a pixie cut, side-swept bangs, and various versions of updos. You can go to both extremes – long locks or cute short cuts both look stunning on an oval-shaped face.
Open your heart-shaped face
When the upper half of your face is wider than the bottom half, you have two options when getting a haircut. You can either try to accentuate that cute, heart-shaped face or you can make the bottom half look wider with a few clever tricks. Keep the length above your shoulders so that the hair is full around the jaw. If you still want long hair, make sure it has some curls or gently tapered layers so it doesn’t fall flat. Avoid short bobs and short bangs since it can make your chin look very narrow.
Soften your square-shaped face
Girls who have square-shaped face usually have a forehead, cheekbones, and a jawline of the same width so hairstylists recommend softening the jaw line to enhance your best features. This is done by letting your hair grow long enough to frame your face nicely. Of course, it’s not just enough for your hair to be long – it has to be healthy as well, so taking hair vitamins during the process of growth and taking good care of it is a must. Avoid curls since they can make your face look even wider. Go for a straight hair look or loose waves instead and you’ll see the full potential of your lovely square-shaped face.
Elongate the round-shaped face
Round face often equals baby face, which means that you’ll always look younger than you really are and that youthful haircut will always be a good choice. Think Miranda Kerr or Selena Gomez and you’ll understand what we mean. Your goal should be to elongate your face and this is easily achieved by having a little piece of hair untucked on one side of your face. Deep side part or high ponytails also do the magic while hiding your face with a lot of hair can only make things worse. Remember that layers are the ones that give definition, so avoid uniformity around your face at any cost.
Make your long face look wider
Sarah Jessica Parker and Liv Tyler have two things in common – they both have long faces and they both look magnificent. That’s because they know a few tricks on how to make their face appear wider. The oldest trick in the book is curls – big curls and waves open the face. On the other hand, good old blowout hair can also help you out, as long as you avoid growing your hair longer than mid-length. Whatever you decide, make sure your cut adds volume to your jawline and you’ll be good to go.
Finally, when choosing the right cut for yourself, other things than your face should be considered, too – your body type, height, as well as your personal style. So, don’t be afraid to experiment until you find the cut that suits you best!
